In the past, we have provided images based on the current version of Ubuntu and listed them with the Ubuntu and PHP version numbers. This was done for a number of reason including some dependency management for legacy software. This approach has served us well, but has also created some confusion for users. In the future we will be simplifying the process of specifying PHP and depedency software versions on a per-build basis, but for now the images will only be tagged with PHP version numbers beginning with the Ubuntu 24.04 images (Alpine images are already utilizing this approach).
We will be supporting PHP 7.4 through the latest versions of PHP on both Ubuntu and Alpine. The images will be available as proboci/ubuntu:phpX.X and proboci/alpine:phpX.X where X.X is the PHP version number. For example, to use PHP 8.5 on Ubuntu, you would use proboci/ubuntu:php8.5 and to use PHP 8.5 on Alpine, you would use proboci/alpine:php8.5.
Previous images will still be available on Probo.CI but will no longer be updated. Support for these will continue for the foreseeable future despite the fact that they will no longer receive updates. If you are using a previous image, please update your .probo.yaml file to use the new images. We will have additional information on how you will be able to specify other depedency versions such as MySQL, MariaDB, SOLR, etc in a future blog post and Probo.CI update.
For now if there is software you would need in an image, please contact Probo Support and we will provide you with mechanisms to add the dependencies you need to add to support your site.
